Full Moon in Leo
We have a full moon tomorrow, 12th Feb (1.34pm, UK time), in the charismatic sign of Leo, the full-hearted fire sign that implores us to radiate our authentic presence, and claim our true sovereignty. As always on a full moon, the Sun and Moon lie directly opposed to one another in the Zodiac, with the Sun being in the progressive, forward-thinking, idealistic sign of Aquarius. The Sun and Moon are at 24˚ of their respective signs, with the Sun still well within the orb of conjunction with Mercury (at 26˚ Aquarius), an indication of intense mental stimulation. It is a time of bright ideas, futuristic innovation, progressive visioning, and a lot of focus on thinking our way around problems.
T-Square with Uranus
What makes this an especially charged full moon is that the Sun-Moon opposition forms a tight t-square to the radical, revolutionary planet, Uranus at 23˚ Taurus, Uranus is the modern ruling planet of Aquarius, which places greater emphasis on the tension between the different perspectives. Aquarius will prioritise the 'greater good' of the community over the concerns of the individual, a more dispassionate, abstract overview of what is best for all, but during the Leo full moon, there is a counter requirement that the sovereignty of the heart be recognised; where personal needs and rights demand centre stage.
Uranus brings a disruptive energy, and upsets many an applecart, as it seeks to radically re-align us to our original essence and purpose. So if we are acting in a way that is not in alignment with that, then the presence of Uranus in a configuation like this be a signal that are things are about to get shaken up! This might be especially apparent for those who have planets around 22-25˚ of the fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio).
A Crisis of Perception
With Uranus squaring up to this full moon, there is an apparent conflict between what we need to bring forth creatively as an expression of individual will (Moon in Leo), and what is actually sustainable, and for the good of the larger network, in terms of the complex systems upon which we depend. Uranus delivers information from the margins, from the periphery, something we tend to overlook while we are focussing so much upon ourselves as the prime generators of our lives. The crisis of perception that Uranus triggers in such a hard aspect to a Leo full moon, often derives from a failure to cultivate our peripheral vision. It stems from an inability to see that we are always, already connected to a complex web or relationships, that we are only who we are because of that; that our personal will is always subject to this more impersonal web of life. A hard Uranus aspect like this shatters the illusion that we have exclusive control over the course of our lives, and it forces to us to confront the wider implications of our actions and behaviours; to see where we have neglected to effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities. It can bring a radical reassessment of who we are within the wider system.
Oxygenating the Heart
So the question is: how we can we remain fully centred in the heart, and fully present to our feelings as they arise, while also remaining alert to what is occurring at the edges of our thinking. How do we include that and allow it to expand our field of knowing, to see where things are going. While Leo brings us into our heart-full presence, Aquarius inspires our mindful prescience. In the body, Leo rules the heart and spine, while Aquarius oversees the oxygenation and circulation of the blood, and the nervous system.
Radical Sovereignty
Aquarius, and Uranus, hold a de-centralised vision of the world, where power is invested in the systemic circulation of energy and ideas, and promotes collective accountability. Leo, on the other hand, insists upon central governance, and its truth is rooted in the heroic principles of authenticity, honour, courage and personal accountability. One is not better than the other; both are essential to the healthy sustenance of any organism or system. Yet from the partisan Aquarian perspective, the Leonine focus on self and personal autonomy seems self-centred, blind to the concerns that are unavoidably entangled in the wider net. And when one is consumed by the Leo perspective, Aquarius seems to lack heart, is pre-occupied with mentalism and technology, and its systematic approach to situations seems too abstract and aloof from the lived human experience. There is opportunity for an evolution of perspective in the challenging themes of this full moon. We need to connect with a more radical form of sovereignty. We must address the tension within ourselves, between the all-consuming passion of the egocentric Leo drama show, and the cool remove of the detached Aquarian systems approach , recognising where the extremes are, and finding a more authentic balance point.
Here is my Leo mantra:
“I am as I am, and I shine from the centre of my Being”
Full moon blessings to all.
