About John
My love of astrology began in 1990, following a profound experience of communion with the night sky, which opened my mind to the poetry of the cosmos and radically altered my worldview. Then, after an intense period of study in my early twenties, I am became a full time professional astrologer, and I have been running a busy consulting practice now for over 25 years.
I have also been teaching astrology for many years, and founded the Kairos School of Astrology in 2008. I began running the two-year astrological programme, that now runs online, back in 2010 in Glastonbury, UK.
I am deeply versed in mythology, Jungian archetypes, and James Hillman’s archetypal psychology. I am known in the field as a pioneer of experiential astrological education, including astrological theatre and astrodrama. I am the founder of The Alchemical Journey, a twelve-month zodiac mystery school pilgrimage, originally based around The Glastonbury Zodiac. My book, Your Zodiac Soul is drawn from this work with the zodiac as a medicine wheel, as twelve gateways to wholeness.
I hold an MA in Cultural Astronomy & Astrology from Bath Spa University (UK), and for my 2005 thesis I produced a seminal work on astrodrama, the first ever academic treatment of the subject, in which I coined the term “Embodied Astrology”. My thesis was entitled: “Towards an Embodied Astrology: Embodiment as a Paradigm for Aatrological Practice”, and in it I present an epistemological framework for astrology as form of healing theatre.
My Work
As an astrological consultant, I help people to gain a better understanding of themselves, their relationships, and their path in life, through investigating the intricacies of their natal birth chart.
I am fascinated by how we learn, and I consider astrological knowledge to be a vital aspect of a well-rounded education, as it always used to be in days of old. It can empower our choices in life. It can help us to become aware of the patterns and pitfalls that can trip us up along the way. And it can help us to express more of our potential as human beings, within the context of a greater-than-human cosmos.
Throughout all of my work, my aim is to help awaken passion, purpose and creative inspiration. I consider these to be at the heart of what it is to live an empowered life and what it is to be truly alive. I would say that my primary commitment as an astrologer is to help people re-align to their deepest truth and help them develop the confidence to live from that.
