The Two-Year Training in Astrology

At Kairos Astrology, we offer a two-year accredited training programme in astrology, a foundation certificate (year 1) followed by an applied diploma programme (year 2), which will give you a comprehensive education both in astrological technique, and in the art of astrological practice and counselling.

Founded by John Wadsworth in 2008, with classes originally held in Glastonbury, UK, the school has taken over over a hundred students through the certificate level, and over fifty through to diploma level. The school now runs online, and can be followed through live classes in combination with an online classroom.

The Kairos School of Astrology is accredited by the APAI, The Association of Professional Astrologers International.  Those who complete the diploma, and the Kairos Code of Ethics, and choose to follow astrology as a profession are eligible to be added to the register of professional astrologers through the APAI, and are entitled to get personal indemnity insurance with Balens Insurance at a significantly discounted rate.

The courses we run at the Kairos School will enable you to:

  • learn the rules and techniques of astrological interpretation

  • deepen your sensitivity to symbolism and the symbolic imagination.

  • become responsive and articulate around myth

  • recognise astrological symbols in the world around you

  • develop mindfulness around language and ethics when working astrologically

  • gain a deep appreciation of the planets as archetypes

  • experiencing the shadow force and the medicine that each archetype presents to the soul, becoming more sensitive to which astrological archetypes are expressing themselves most strongly in a persons life.

  • Develop a practice in real situations, both in terms of your personal chart, and the chart of family, friends and perhaps, eventually clients.

Meet the teacher

Hello. My name is John Wadsworth. I am the founder of the Kairos School of Astrology, and its primary teacher. My approach is borne out of 33 years of professional practice, and is primarily a psychological appraoch, alongside elements of traditional and evolutionary astrology. I am known in the field for my experiential, embodied approach to astrological education, with an emphasis on healing and transformation. I’m also a great champion of ethical standards in astrological practice, and build this into the courses I teach, especially at diploma level. I set up the Kairos school in 2008 in Glastonbury, UK. I began running this two-year training in in 2011, and I turned this online in 2020, where it now runs. I am the author of ‘Your Zodiac Soul’, in which I present the zodiac as a twelve-stage journey of initiation, gateways to wholeness.

 FAQs

  • The Kairos School of Astrology is accredited by the Association of Professional Astrologers International (APAI), and upon completion of the two-year training, you will be awarded the dip. KSA in Astrological Studies diploma. The award of this diploma, is a recognition of competence in astrological interpretation, and your ability to offer consultations to clients in a professional capacity, within the ethos of the Kairos School approach.

  • Ideally, yes, you complete the foundation course first, and that will automatically qualify you for the diploma. We do occasionally make exceptions, where a student can demonstrate sufficient competency in astrological interpretation to undertake the diploma.

  • The foundation course gives you a thorough and comprehensive grounding in astrological birth chart interpretation, both in theory and in practice, as it applies to your own birth chart. Everything you learn on the foundation, you are encouraged to employ as a basis for self-enquiry into your own life, and apply it directly to your own chart. In the diploma, you take you have learned on the foundation and learn to apply it in real life situations with your own case study clients. Each module on the diploma is centred around a particular life theme - vocation, relationships, family, money, health etc - and you learn to identify which astrological signatures to pay attention to in each case, and a method of approach. The diploma will help you develop an ethical practice as an astrologer.

  • The foundation and diploma are assessed differently. On the foundation course, you will receive a workbook, with self-study questions to accompany each lesson, and we ask you to submit your work at the end of each term so that we can check that you’re on track with your understanding. There is a short assignment to submit each term which will be marked by a member of the facilitation team, and you will receive feedback from us at that point. For the diploma, which carries seven modules, there is an assessment process for each module, which comprises a live session with a case study client, focussed on the topic of the module, of which you send us a recording of the first 30 minutes for assessment. There is a also a final assignment at the end of the diploma course. On the successful completion of this final assignment you will be awarded the diploma.

  • Our good practice guidelines state that “the primary art and skill of the astrologer is to expand or deepen a client’s enquiry into whatever area of life for which they are seeking clarity. We do not do this by telling our clients what they should or should not do based on astrological judgements. Rather, we can help inform our client’s choices by offering an astrological perspective, expanding or deepening their own field of enquiry, so that they can come to their own judgment.” You can read our full code of ethics here.
