Full Moon in Aries
Dear Friends
We have a full moon in Aries coming up, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 7th October (4.48am, UK time). With the Sun in Libra and the Moon in Aries, the tension is likely to be felt most in relationships, and especially in the way we pursue our desire for union, connection and harmony, without sacrificing our need for independence, individual autonomy and personal sovereignty. Aries calls for courage and action, which contrasts with Libra’s awareness of the need to be considerate and reflective.
An Aries moon urges you to put your own needs first and to get back in the driving seat of your own life, and make sure it is headed in a direction that is true to you. And yet during the Libra season, when the equinoctial light draws our eye and our soul’s longing toward the beauty of the world, we are especially attracted to the idea of uniting with another, and the desire for relationship is especially strong.
So this full moon challenges us to recognise and embrace our inevitable relatedness to others, while remaining true to who we are in our own unique essence. If we tip too much toward the Libran pole, then we tend to yield too easily to another’s wishes in an attempt to accommodate them or placate them, but when we lean too much into the Aries pole, we can become fiercely entrenched in our own desire, personal will and need for self-preservation. That is the balancing act, we are called to work with over this full moon. Sometimes we need to put ourselves first, in order to restore balance to our relationships!
Aspects in the Full Moon Chart
There are no major aspects to the Sun and Moon in today’s chart. However we can note that the Moon’s ruling planet, Mars, is very strong in its own sign of Scorpio where it can be confonting in its determination to penetrate the truth and get beneath the surface layer of what is presented. Being unaspected itself, Mars could be a bit of a wild card at this time, and rather unrestrained in its passions!
The other thing to note in the full moon chart is predicament of Mercury, the messenger who oversees our communication and language, and the way information comes to us and is interpreted. Mercury is in the first degree of Scorpio and is receiving challenging aspects from all three outer planets. It is in an exact square to Pluto (modern ruler of Scorpio) in the sign of Aquarius, which can darken the mind and make us very suspicious of the information we receive; we may be more than usually inclined (perhaps with good reason) to mistrust what we are being told. We might even be more forceful than usual in our need to challenge others opinions and expose lies and falsity. Mercury is also receiving inconjunct aspects from both Uranus (in Gemini) and Neptune (in Aries), which puts it at the apex of a yod configuration (the so-called finger of fate). This can stretch our minds, and confuse our thinking to some extent, and it may be best to remain open and not too fixated on a particular idea and perspective. There is the potential to open up new pathways of thought here, and while that can be a little disorienting, it could also evolve our capacity to see beyond the limits of our normal way of seeing things.
The Aries Full Moon Mantra
So our task here is to remain mindful of the opposing and contradictory narratives that are constantly lobbying for our agreement and consent, whilst remaining true to our core sense of self, our essential values and our truth. And when we do take up a position, we need to be clear about what it is that we conforming to, and the extent to which this requires us to trust in an external authority. To what extent are we subject to the Libran weakness of over-compromising in the face of social pressure?
My mantra for Aries runs like this: “I am here, I am now, fully present as I am!” When we truly show up in our authentic presence, we know what is right, without having to be told by external media, and when this is aligned in us, we know what to do, and we do it in a way that naturally disarms the other, without the need to go to war.
Full moon blessings to all!
John
