Full Moon in Taurus
Dear Friends
We have a full moon in Taurus today, 5th November 2025, at 1.19pm UK time. The Sun and Moon mark their monthly opposition, challenging us, as a full moon does, to address the polarity of two opposing forces, and, as best we can, to hold that tension. The spiritual task at this full moon, in particular, is to allow space for the light and shadow within ourselves to co-exist, so that it doesn’t projected out onto the world as conflict and division, or polarise us inwardly against ourselves. That capacity that we have to recognise and take responsbility for these polarity dynamics helps raise our awareness and enhance the capacity we have to grow and evolve our consciousness.
This theme of holding space for both the light and the dark is particularly apt right now, as this full moon coincides with the Mars ingress into Sagittarius and with it, the formation of an exact opposition with Uranus in Gemini. In Sagittarius, Mars can be become very one-sided in its conviction, fervently committed to a particular way of seeing the world. When in opposition to Uranus, the fiery archer can become radicalised, bringing about a sudden uprising in the psyche; it can fuel a desire to overthrow the existing order in some way. When coupled with awareness and wisdom, this revolutionary energy can lead to the implementation of much needed change. Without that, however, the expression of this energy can be wildly impulsive and overshoot, or miss the mark.
It seems an apt signature for the 5th of November (remember, remember…) when, in 1605, a certain Guy Fawkes encapsulted the Mars-Uranus spirit in his attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament!
Holding the Tension of Light & Shadow
During a Taurus full moon, we are confronted with the tension between our material life, and our soul life. In Taurus we attach meaning to that which is embodied and perceived through the senses, that which we experience through our engagement with the material world. In Scorpio we attach meaning to that which cannot be grasped materially, but is imagined, and made manifest within the psyche and lived out through our psycho-spiritual existence. The two represent a polarity, opposite perspectives on reality that find reconciliation within the wheel of the year. Taurus is manifest in the seasonal round as the abundance of Spring’s renewing, blossoming life force; Scorpio, by contrast, as the gathering shadows of autumn and the journey to the Underworld, where the realisation of the deeper truth of existence will transform and ultimately sustain life. The Taurus full moon always occurs during the Scorpio season, reminding us to be grateful too for the darkening shadows as they gather in the gloom.
So these two perspectives that lie opposed to one another are inevitably woven together, we cannot have one without the other. As the life of our green light-filled world grows and flourishes in Taurus, so it must die back and be composted in the deep underworld passage of the soul in Scorpio. The materialist is focussed always on growth, but true abundance can only be realised when the processes of growth, decay and regeneration are integrated as part of a wholeness. On the other side, as we plunge into the darkening Scorpio season, we are drawn into an encounter with our repressed shadow material, to face our deepest fears and unspoken desires, while not losing faith that our light will return. The opportunity of a Taurus full moon is to reconnect with the gratitude piece, to appreciate what we have, while we have it, for who knows how long we will have it for. It is to remember to be present to the gift of life, to relish in life’s mysteries. It is an invitation to connect deeply with the sensorium of the body, and to take ownership of that, to slow down and experience the great-fullness of each moment, even while we process our losses, grievances and unfulfilled desires.
Even in the midst of dark and difficult times, where there are forces that might appear to threaten all that is good in the world, we can call upon this moon to remind us of the simple beauty of life and to dwell in gratitude for it. Through this, we can bring our awareness back to the present, back to a sense of who we are, as ensouled beings, who have chosen to incarnate on this earth at this time of turbulent change as humanity shifts from one great epoch into another. We are here to have an embodied experience, to witness this shift, to be a part of it; to go through whatever trials our soul has called in, and to bear those trials for the sake of our evolution.
The Chart of the Full Moon
Below we can see the chart, the Sun and Moon opposed at 13˚ of Scorpio and Taurus respectively. While the Sun and Moon do not make significant aspects to other planets, there are important aspects between other planets here. We can see that Mars-Uranus opposition mentioned above, hovering on the cusp at 0˚ Sagittarius / Gemini. And we also note an exact trine between Jupiter in Cancer, and Saturn in Pisces. With these two ‘societal’ planets currently stationing at 25˚of those signs, this more stable aspect is (unusually) maintained throughout November. It suggests that the forces of possibility and necessity, of expansion and contraction, of optimism and pessimism / realism, are well balanced for the time being. And being in water signs, this trine aspect could support processes of emotional catharis and healing.
The Taurus Mantra
My Taurus mantra goes like this:
“I am grateful for what I have, fully embodied as I am, here, in the rich sensuous atmosphere of this present moment.”
Full moon blessings to all!
John
